The importance of regular maintenance

Electronics can be an expensive investment and when they start to break down, they can become quite a problem. The simplest reason to keep up with regular maintenance is to keep your investment running as long as possible and as hassle free as possible to maximize the ownership experience. Whether you’re using a certain electronic heavily every day or only a few times a month, making sure it is up to date will help ensure that it is ready to perform whenever you need it. If it has any issues, it is better to find out before you are in a time crunch and it just adds more frustration.

How it helps scanners

When it comes to scanners, they function is to translate paper documents into digital images. Everybody who scans an image hopes to achieve the greatest quality possible. The best way to do so is by doing regular maintenance to keep the scanner as clean and efficient as possible. The most common issue that scanners encounter is the buildup of dust. If dust gets on the lens, it can get scanned into the image and ruin the quality. Sometimes it can create streaks or dots on the image and make it unusable. Another issue to look out for is other object getting close to losing that might scratch it. If the lens gets scratched, it will ruin every image going forward and therefore will have to be replaced. By simply cleaning the scanner at the beginning of every week, it will help avoid all of these issues. A clean scanner will make sure it runs longer and it keeps producing the same high quality images consistently.

How to clean the scanner

  • The first step in cleaning your scanner is to make sure the scanner is turned off and optionally even unplugged.
  • The you will raise to cover to get access to the lens.
  • Using a non-abrasive glass cleaner, dampen your cloth (do not spray the scanner directly) and then proceed to wiping the lens. You want to avoid spraying the scanner itself as the liquid might drop down and seep into other parts of the scanner.
  • Finally, leave the cover open and let the scanner dry before closing it up and running it again.

The cleaning process is really simple and straightforward. This small investment of time will ensure that your scanner continues to run properly and will help prolong its life considerably.
